Bayern Munich dominate the Bundesliga season again, but were surprisingly eliminated in the Champions League quarterfinals. The financial losses suffered by the COVID-19 pandemic but also the weak course in Europe have serious repercussions on the Bavarian club. Thus, Bayern may lose several important players at the end of this season.
Bayern Munich has financial problems
Bayern Munich has a season below expectations. In the Bundesliga the Bavarians occupy the first place and are close to winning a new title. In the Champions League, however, the Bavarians were surprisingly eliminated in the quarterfinals by the small team Villarreal. Restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic but also the premature elimination from European competitions affected Bayern Munich’s budget quite a bit.
Thus, the Bavarian club is facing serious financial problems, as even the executive director Oliver Kahn acknowledged. According to the daily Tageszeitung, Bayern Munich would have a limited budget this summer. The Bavarians can spend only 200 million euros. This amount should cover the extensions of Lewandowski, Gnabry, Neuer and Muller’s contracts, which are due in 2023, as well as possible transfers.
Massive departures from the Allianz Arena
The delicate situation of the Bavarian club was immediately understood by Thomas Muller and Manuel Neuer. The two veterans will not have higher financial demands than before. The same is not true of Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry. The two want more money, and this will be difficult to achieve.
Robert Lewandowski wants a contract valid until 2025 and a salary of 30 million euros a year. The Pole now has a salary of 24 million euros a year. Serge Gnabry has quite high financial demands considering that he had a modest season. He is asking for a salary of 18-20 million euros a year, given that he now receives 9 million euros. The two footballers are already in talks with other strong teams, and their departure from Munich seems inevitable.
Apart from these possible departures, Bayern Muchen will part with Roca, Richards, Sarr and Sabitzer in the summer. They could be joined by Nianzou, who has not impressed since his arrival in Munich.
Bayern Munich set their sights on Gavi. Barcelona’s wonder kid is wanted at the Allianz Arena
One of the players who has impressed the most this season in Barcelona is Gavi. During this period, the Catalans are trying to extend the young player’s contract. However, it seems that he refused a first offer to continue on the Camp Nou. According to El Mundo Deportivo, Bayern Munich want to take advantage of this situation and transfer the 17-year-old Barcelona midfielder. The Bavarians want to make several important transfers this summer, amid the imminent departure of Robert Lewandowski.
