The new iPhone is available in two versions with the iPhone 13 on one side and the iPhone 13 Pro on the other. The two smartphones are not going to offer the same level of performance. Concretely, the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max have a 5-core graphics solution against a 4-core GPU for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini. This less core has a big impact on performance.

At least that’s what the Geekbench 5 benchmark database shows. In a new series of tests under Metal, the A15 Bionic scores 10608 in its 4-core version. This assessment is not “top” knowing that the iPhone 12 Pro equipped with the A14 Bionic signs a score of 9123.

The performance increase is only 15%. Regarding the 5-core version fitted to the iPhone 13 Pro, we have a score of 14216 points, which places it with a good lead of 55% over the A14 Bionic.

Regarding Apple’s choice to offer a very different GPU between the two versions, the explanation may be linked to recycling in order to save production costs. It is possible that Apple will recycle these A15 Bionic having a defective core that cannot then find their place in the iPhone 13 Pro. This decision could also be a solution to limit the impact of the current shortage affecting the world of semiconductors.
